Crevice is a solo exhibition of paintings by Anna Pugh as part of the gallery’s STARTyourself program. In a collection of works which vary greatly in size, Pugh explores in Crevice the emotional and interpretive content of the corporeal. “I have been interested in depicting the human body and more specifically different aspects of flesh for many years, and I have found some areas that I painted that I thought were very beautiful were actually quite disturbing to others,” Pugh says. The culmination of a longstanding project for Pugh, this exhibition deals in the body’s ambiguities and its ability to simultaneously activate the polar experiences of desire and repulsion.

Anna Pugh is in her fourth year at Wake Forest. A Studio Art major with minors in Biology and Art History, Pugh works in a variety of media, from painting to drawing and printmaking. Her work has appeared in class exhibitions at START in the past; she has also shown in the Charlotte and Philip Hanes Art Gallery at Wake Forest in its annual student exhibition, and in the campus literary magazine, 3 to 4 Ounces.  Pugh attends Wake Forest as a Mullen-Carswell, Eleanor Layfield Davis, and Reifler Family Scholar.
