The student artists in 3x4x7 are exploring traditional and non-traditional approaches to oil painting, incorporating digital tools and techniques. Starting from an initial choice of single subject and considering their conceptual and visual points of view, students experimented with nine permutations and combinations of painting techniques, color palettes, and creative approaches.

The resulting grids of nine mini-paintings then become the stimulus for the larger 3’ x 4’ paintings on display. Painting is approached here as a layered and iterative process, and these students explore the refinement of their own capacity to reinvent and restructure the form of their painting, while examining more deeply their point of view and how it influences their creative decision making process.
